Guatemala has fairly
easy requirements for retirees. However, as in any foreign country,
it is best to seek advice from a resident lawyer to guide one
through the bureaucracy. Among the requirements are a proof of
steady income, either from a pension or from investments, duly-legalized
proof of nationality and a clean court record. There are no laws
against foreign ownership of real estate, except in very limited
cases in restricted areas, but these apply to nationals as well.
